Wow! What a Superb ‘Ship’

We have just returned from a week on board Candlewood with friends. As a group of seasoned Canal Boaters owning our own Narrow Boat, we were completely blown away with the extremely high standard of furnishings and equipment on Candlewood. Sham has put so much thought and effort into making Candlewood stand way above even the very top end of the hire fleet market. To say that staying on board is ‘home from home’, is a massive understatement. With a floor space larger than many modern day luxury flats, Candlewood is airy, light and so very luxuriously comfortable. Attention to detail has obviously been Sham’s driving force behind designing and fitting out Candlewood. Previous reviews echo our thoughts entirely, so no point in repeating but would like to add that Sham gives a personal touch to everything about the boat, from booking it to being welcomed on board and addressing any queries or issues that may arise. We hope to hire Candlewood again in the future but in the mean time have no hesitation in wholeheartedly recommending Candlewood to others looking to hire a top of the range wide beam boat and to use her to discover the beautiful River Thames.

The nicest boat on the Thames

We took Candlewood for a 2 week self isolation and had a ball. After 14 days exploring the Thames up to Abingdon and down to Windsor we simply did not see a nicer boat, and got so many compliments. Reasons she is a better choice than most: - As a wide beam she is an order of magnitude more comfortable than a narrowboat, - She feels like someone’s home - think AirBNB rather than travel hotel. - She has luxuries like dishwasher, freezer, washing machine and X-Box that are almost unheard of afloat. - She has a spacious stern seating/dining area that is very rare even on other wide beams. - She has powerful solar panels that reduce (but do not eliminate) the power costs of all those toys. There are things to manage (keeping batteries and water full, rubbish and toilets empty are your main concerns as ever) and she is more of a handful to steer in close quarters than smaller boats, but overall she is absolutely worth the extra cost compared to the mass market alternatives. Just look at that kitchen!

Thanks for your review Ewan. Glad you had such a good time!
